This month, the Healthcare Ministry is encouraging our church family and community to stay safe during the extreme Texas summer heat. Heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke, can happen quickly and can affect anyone, but older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, outdoor workers, athletes, and those without access to air conditioning are at greater risk. The good news is that heat-related illnesses are largely preventable with the right precautions.
Join the Healthcare Ministry as we raise awareness about recognizing the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing, seeking shade or air-conditioned spaces, and checking on elderly family members, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable during periods of extreme heat. Remember: heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, has a body temperature of 104°F or higher, or stops sweating despite the heat, call 911 immediately.
Educational resources, heat safety information, and summer wellness materials will be available at the Healthcare Ministry 3rd Sunday screenings on July 19th after service in the Narthex to help our congregation and community stay healthy and safe all summer long.
