Reverend James Fitzgerald

Pastor of Pastoral Care
Picture
“Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trust in Him.”
Psalm 34:8

James L. Fitzgerald serves as the Pastor of Pastoral Care at Friendship-West Baptist Church (FWBC), under the leadership of the senior pastor, Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III; one of the largest church congregations in Dallas.

As the Lord move in many areas in Reverend James L. Fitzgerald ministry, Pastoral Care has been one of the most fulfilling areas of ministry, alongside his love for proclaiming the Word of God. Energizing preaching and exciting illustrative teaching which creates a climate of change are his ministerial goals and desires. His love for the people of God and winning souls for Christ is absorbed through his means of “out-of-the-box” creative and anointed ministry.

His area of concentration focuses on the needs and cares of the congregation in and outside the walls of FWBC, with visitation, counseling, and support through prayer and hands on ministry that can be seen throughout the city of Dallas, and the metropolitan area. Pastoral care demands many hours of support after the normal work hours and his heart and love for Gods’ people never challenges his indefatigable call to ministry. Reverend Fitzgerald has a heart to serve and is committed to pleasing God in every area of his ministry. He is currently involved in local community programs, teaches at local schools on all levels, colleges, and conferences as well as the Howard Thurman Bible Institute. His weekly commitment to teaching senior adult bible study, Wednesday worship at area nursing homes, support for local gospel radio evangelism and his love for the young and the elderly exemplifies his approach to the Jesus model of ministry towards kingdom building.

He has served as staff pastor of Brothers Leading African American Church and Community (OBLACC), Pastor of Evangelism, Pastor of Community Service and Development, and now oversees the Deacons, and six other areas of ministry at FWBC.

Reverend Fitzgerald uncompromised Bible-base preaching coupled with his hands-on, insightful teaching has allowed him to serve as a guest preacher/teacher throughout the United States. Having served in various ministerial positions across the state of Texas, he believes that he is called to serve as pastor: to teach, to preach, and to lead as God directs, Jesus speaks, and the Holy Spirit empowers and impacts.

Pastor Fitzgerald has received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M-Kingsville, in May of 1982, and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft Worth, TX in May of 1996. Reverend Fitzgerald was licensed to the Ministry by Simmonsville Missionary Baptist Church in Killeen, Texas in 1985, and ordained in January of 2002, at Friendship-West Baptist Church.

He is the father of one daughter,  Janell Brashea’ Fitzgerald, a member of Kappa Omicron Phi, National Honor Society and Kappa Alphi Psi fraternity.
