"And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me."
Matthew 25:45

Social Justice

“Charity is no substitute for justice. If we never challenge a social order that allows some to accumulate wealth--even if they decide to help the less fortunate--while others are short-changed, then even acts of kindness end up supporting unjust arrangements. We must never ignore the injustices that make charity necessary, or the inequalities that make it possible. ”
― Michael Eric Dyson, Come Hell or High Water: Hurricane Katrina and the Color of Disaster
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."
Luke 4:18-19

Economic Justice

“Communism forgets that life is individual. Capitalism forgets that life is social, and the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism but in a higher synthesis. It is found in a higher synthesis that combines the truths of both.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
"If I have denied justice to any of my servants, whether male or female, when they had a grievance against me,
Job 31:13
Gender Justice
“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.”
-Maya Angelou
More Gender Justice
"By the power of your hand, O Lord, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants."

Food Justice

“If you give a hungry man food, he will eat it. [But] if you give him land, he will grow his own food.”
-Fannie Lou Hammer
"Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you."
Deuteronomy 16:20

Environmental Justice

"Today, it is known that climate change and the fossil fuel practices that drive it place a disproportionate burden upon poor communities, especially poor communities of color. The connections that link multiple struggles for justice are now readily apparent."
-Brooks Berndt
