Rally to End Racism In Arlington
Friday, February 29, 2008
Arlington City Hall

Mean while back in Texas following the “Rally Against Racism” Friday, February 29, 2008 on the steps of Arlington City Hall things heated up. Over 300 community supporters joined movement spokesman Frederick D. Haynes III and members of Enough Racism in Arlington (ERA) in denouncing the city’s handling of the racist attacks on Broderick Gamble and Silk Littlejohn. Speaking at the rally Rev. Haynes announced that the group would be uncovering the garage doors exposing once again racist graffiti spray painted on the doors on December 21, 2007 only two days after Arlington resident Grace Head, who is white, viciously attacked Silk Littlejohn. Pastor Haynes told the group that the doors would not be covered again until a list of demands released to hundreds of supporters and members of the press were met. He gave the city ten (10) days to meet the demands. Subsequently Arlington city officials responded to the list in an article that ran in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (see Arlington’s responses below). Among rally speakers was ERA members Thomas Muhammad, Rev. Michael Bell, 97.9 Rickey Smiley, K104 Skip Cheatham, Rev. Stephen Nash and Derick Bowman, Shaquanda Cotton and mother Creola made the drive up from Paris Texas to speak in support. Friendship West Ministry of Justice Organizer Danielle Ayers was given big props. Shout outs were also extended to Friendship West staff organizers Tonya Neal and Vernon “Snoop” Robinson for pulling off a great well attended program.
